Getting a driver to let go

Hi All,
How do you get a driver to temporarily give up the device? I use an FTDI232BM USB to serial chip in one of my systems and for the most part i want to use the driver supplied by FTDI. But occasionally I want my program to talk to the chips so that I can program it's EEPROM. for the moment I have removed the driver so that I can test my programs functionality, but I will want it to function on other peoples computers without them having to remove the drivers just to program it and then to reinstall it.

I have tried usig ISBDeviceOpenSeize() but the driver still won't give it up.

  Thanks for the help,

  Regards,

  Ashley
